List of Chief Ministers of India

The Indian Constitution does not prescribe a specific procedure for selecting and appointing a Chief Minister. According to Article 164, the appointment is made by the state government. To qualify as a Chief Minister, an individual must be an Indian citizen, at least 25 years old, and a member of either the Legislative Assembly or the Legislative Council.

If someone who is not already a member is appointed, they must be elected to one of these houses within six months; otherwise, their appointment will be invalidated.

The Chief Minister holds significant powers, including allocating and reshuffling ministerial portfolios. If the Chief Minister resigns, the entire cabinet must also resign. The Chief Minister oversees the activities of all ministers, can request their resignation in case of disagreements, and advises on ministerial appointments.
